![]() ![]() This article seems a bit lazy and not up to par with the usual content of The Free Press. There is hardly any movement in the opposite direction. ![]() The reality is that when you look at AI researchers who are considering the existential threat posed by it, virtually all of the movement has been from the agnostic/doubtful camp to the very concerned. ![]() this is a immaturely rounded-up statement of predictive absolutism pretending that since history doesn't run on a monorail, then we must give up on probabilities. "No one can foresee those futures!" Sigh. (Please make your mind up before typing.) If the latter, then there are enough Judith Butlers in the world, thanks: one doesn't flee to the Free Press only to find oneself encountering more pseuds who like to name-drop with silly phrases like "Hayekian (Popperian?)". This is either a howling oversight or a deliberate strategy of abstraction intended to shield the main point from criticism. But the author's chief concept of '“moving” history' remains studiously undefined. Sophomoric and overheated with exclamation marks, it clearly thinks it has something wise to say. I'm sorry to say that this is a lazy article. ![]() ![]() "Readers will be fascinated by the stone-collage illustrations created by Syrian artist Badr, who arranges expressive tableaux of people formed entirely of rocks and pebbles.A unique offering that will open eyes and soften hearts."-Booklist ![]() "Stunning, original artwork both childlike and sophisticated a text that will both break and mend your heart."-Jane Yolen, award-winning author of Devil's Arithmetic and The Stone Angel. ![]() "It's exquisite! Tom is forced into the realization that he’s a sub/bottom. And Law follows Tom up to his apartment and, well, seduces him? That isn’t the right word but I’ll expand on that later. Tom decides that, yes, he’d like to go as last ‘fuck you’. Synopsis: Super rich guy Law shows up at Tom’s work to invite him to his cousin’s wedding… who was also Tom’s lover the previous year. Again, this is even more surprising when you consider that probably half of the four hour story is sex. And I’ve listened to the last half hour like… more than that because I find it really charming. Because I really have listened to it four (at least) times. American authors rarely consider how… disturbing it is to read about this kind of cold-blooded, murderous patriotism.Īnd yet… I obviously enjoyed the book. Indeed, if the blurb had mentioned this angle (which, tbh, isn’t essential to Law’s characterization), I probably would’ve skipped the book. Anyone who knows me knows that this sort of thing (along with gay cops) is my least favourite. This is especially true given that Law is a vet who is very quite happy about murdering people in Afghanistan in an unjustified war. ![]() Given what this book is, I wasn’t actually expecting to like it enough to listen to it like… four times already. ![]() ![]() ![]() They are “proof that something bad can become something good with enough time and care and hope.” Hers are home to owlets, possums, raccoons and skunks.
